  • Hmm I think the fact that snakes can use venom to defend them selves is the by far the best technique for survival, but still my fav defensive display/technique is the cute hog nose snakes playing dead I think it’s mayb not from a preditors point view the but still the most cutest an most unique defense a snake can do. I love hog noses an the fact there even more adorable with this defense position makes me love them even more😊😊💕💕💕🐍🐍 tho is it weird I have a leopard gecko named Bandit an he likes to petted on his back a lot when I go to care for him he climbs up my arm mid way an sits there I lightly with a finger stroke his back up an down he closes his eyes then lifts his head up an slowly moves his tail side to side then stops loveing his tail an opens his eyes when I stop petting him after a few seconds an either goes on his tree branch till I’m done cleaning his cage an stuff or just sits there till I’m done an he’s never dropped his tail tho but scared it wasn’t a good thing he was doing I try not to do it much tho I feel bad cause he still goes up my arm an waits for me an I don’t pay him attention by petting him just talk to him instead then an give him a his fav a couple roaches as a treat for being a good boy

  • r/snakes [deleted] 3y What's the general opinion on Brian Barczyk here? From some older posts I've seen on this subreddit he seems to get a fairly bad rap. Althoug I do sometimes enjoy his content, I tend to agree with the general opinion I saw expressed in those posts: that the guy is kind of an ass and he doesn't treat his snakes as well as he should. Like in the case of his housing for the larger snakes he owns, burmese pythons, reticulated pythons, etc. He seems to keep them in drawers that barely house them when they are coiled up and although I have never kept large snakes so I cant be sure of the negative effects it may have on their health, it doesn't seem like a healthy environment for them. I have also seen a multitude of instances where people have gotten reptiles with mites or with some other problem when ordering from his company, BHB Reptiles. It seems to me that he is not quite the proper reptile keeper and animal lover he makes himself out to be. So I ask you, the people of r/snakes, what are your opinions on the man?

  • Crested Gecko tails don't just "fall off" that easy. I pet my Crested Geckos tail, she just sort of grabs onto me. My Gargoyle has never dropped her tail either. The only "frog butt" Crested Gecko I have, I bought her that way. She was my 1st. I was scared about tail dropping so my 1st I just bought one who already didn't have one. But since then, I have gotten 2 tailed Crested Geckos and I just read body language. My one female was mad at me and she was swaying her tail back and forth, sort of flicking it, so I knew to just leave her alone. My Gargoyle is too chill to care lol. Though, I don't have lizards who bite or have any reason to be defensive, I hold my lizards almost every single day and they actually beg at their door, and if I open it they crawl out onto my hand. Taming reptiles is key.
